3D Printing Helps Make a WheelChair

Often called as additive manufacturing, 3D printing is replacing our conventional ways of manufacturing things and things are built in layers using the digital 3D models. Many kinds of products and materials can be made today with 3D printed models and its applications are still growing. Many analysts predict that in decades to come, it will radically transform our designing and production processes.
Many people have seized the opportunity and designed various products that were made completely according to their specifications and designs. Just recently London-based design firm Layer its new prototype of wheelchair was completely designed using 3D printer. This wheelchair was result of months of research where the designing team questioned various patients and doctors to design the wheelchair that would be comfortably used by them. It was custom design for each patient using their own measurements which means that this wheelchair was just designed for them.
According to Benjamin Hubert, founder of the company Layer, the company is planning to take the plan further and is designing mobile app which will allow users to further customize their wheelchair by choosing colors and adding accessories to their wheelchairs. This wheelchair can be ordered via app and can be delivered within two weeks after manufacturing.
